CHRISTOPHER GAY, MD
Anesthesiologist & Pain Management Physician
Dr. Christopher Gay is a personable board-certified pain physician who provides exceptional service to patients in Alaska. Originally from the east coast, he now calls Alaska home.
An accomplished interventional pain specialist, he earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and subsequently completed his residency and fellowship training at New York’s Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University, one of the top medical centers in the country. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, with board certification in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management.
Dr. Gay understands that no two people experience pain alike, so he employs an evidence-based approach to tailor personalized treatment regimens for his patients’ individual conditions. He is well-versed in a wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures, and believes that understanding pain conditions and how they are treated is the foremost step in empowering patients to take control of their pain. He is comfortable with all aspects of pain management when deemed appropriate recognizing that it often takes a team approach to treat pain effectively. Dr. Gay keeps in close communication with other treating health care providers and includes consideration of holistic and integrative medicine approaches in his treatment plans.
DEBORAH KILEY, DNP, FNP-BC
Pain Management & Integrative Care Nurse Practioner
Dr. Kiley draws on her many year of experience as a nurse practitioner treating primary care and chronic pain patients, as well as patients within her integrative care practice. She is very knowledgeable about pain conditions and factors which can be modified to help make your treatments more successful. She is also well-versed in the leading research regarding supplements and modifications you can make to live your best life!
Raised in Southern California, Dr. Kiley practiced there until she moved to Alaska with her family in 1994. A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), she has worked with patients as an RN and NP in a wide variety of healthcare settings, including 5 years teaching RN and NP students at UAA. She has extensive pain management experience in California and Alaska in pain management primary care, specialty, and integrative care practices. Dr. Kiley uses a Functional Medicine approach in addition to prescription medications and other western pain interventions.
Dr. Kiley earned her Master’s Degree in Ambulatory Care at UCLA, and Doctor of Nursing Practice at Rush College of Nursing in Chicago. Her passion for empowering patients and helping them find their best health sent her to the Duke Center for Integrative Medicine where she obtained Certification as an Integrative Health Coach. Her passion is working with patients to find the most effective and natural approach to improve their health and function.
When not providing care for patients, she works on state and national healthcare policy to improve access to care, lectures nationally on pain and integrative therapies and social media. Her favorite exercise is practicing Judo at the Anchorage Dojo, where she has been a member for over 20 years.
BEN EKSTROM, MD, FAAP
Anesthesiologist & Pain Management Physician
Dr. Ben Ekstrom is a highly trained and compassionate pain management physician and an Alaskan through and through. He grew up in Anchorage and graduated from Dimond High School. When not working, he is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing, backpacking, and cross country skiing. He and his wife, also born in Alaska, are excited to raise their children in their home state and help them experience the beauty and natural wonders of Alaska!
Through his training, Dr. Ekstrom gained valuable skills and experience at some of the best training programs in the nation and is excited to return to Anchorage to serve his community. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed residency training in anesthesiology at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. He then completed two clinical fellowships through Harvard Medical School pediatric anesthesiology and pain management for children and adults. He is the only pain management physician in Alaska who also specializes in treating children with painful diseases.
He treats patients one at at time, and as if they were one of his family members. Recognizing that chronic pain impacts all aspects of the lives of patients and their families, he employs a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to pain management, and looks forward to caring for you or your child.

His philosophy for patient care is to treat patients one at a time and to treat them like family. Having trained in international referral centers for pain management, he is prepared to treat the most difficult pain syndromes in patients of all ages. In addition to medical treatment of pain, he has expertise in the entire spectrum of interventional pain procedures. He employs a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to pain management, recognizing that chronic pain has impact on all aspects of the lives of patients and their families.
Dr. Ben is an avid outdoorsman and he enjoys hunting, fishing, backpacking, and cross-country skiing. He has hiked many peaks in Southcentral Alaska. His wife, Sarah, was also raised in Alaska and was born here. They are thrilled to raise their children in their home state and help them experience the beauty and natural wonders of Alaska!
